DHL Supply Chain in Lutterworth, Leicestershire not only provide a great service to SOS KIT AID by storing rugby kit that continually comes into their depot but also provide packing teams to facilitate substantial deliveries. Other major organisations like Jaguar Land Rover, BT, and the Coventry Building Society have previously been engaged on packing days and on August 20th DHL supplied 8 colleagues to unpack, sort, repack and palletise over 2 tonnes of kit into 200 boxes which will supply much needed rugby kit to disadvantaged youngsters in Bulgaria and Lithuania so they can take part in the game they love with good quality kit.

The kit was supplied by donations from local clubs, and schools as well as Premiership clubs such as Leicester Tigers and Worcester Warriors. Major suppliers such as Tejay Socks and Gymphlex also donated huge amounts of new kit from their stocks. The pack was done in record time and 8 pallet loads of kit are already en route to their destinations.

Chris Sharpe the General Manager of the Lutterworth DHL Supply Chain site site said:It is an absolute pleasure to work with Gary Welsh and the team to support this worthwhile and enjoyable charitable venture. The team on site look forward to the kit packing days as not only are we supporting SOS Kit Aid but they also have fun and take great pride in the project which in turn supports the engagement and team ethos within our business. Well done to all involved.'

Kit packing day at DHL September 2013

On Friday 20 September, seven intrepid ladies from the Learning and Development Department at the Coventry Building Society swopped their desks in Coventry for the hurly-burly of a day's kit packing at LV= SOS Kit Aid's Midlands store at DHL in Lutterworth. In keeping with other progressive organisations the Coventry Building Society, the UK's third largest building society, allows its staff a number of paid volunteering days each year.

The ladies, led by Suzanne Hollingsworth, packed a total of 1,250 kg of rugby kit and equipment and two consignments will shortly be on their way to Poland and Bulgaria, helping children to play sport in those countries. Suzanne and her colleagues declared the day to have been a very worthwhile and a very enjoyable experience.

The photo shows the Coventry ladies with John Marshall, LV= SOS Kit Aid's East Midlands Regional Director in front of the packed consignments.

Midlands Update 2013

The Midlands Region has gone from strength to strength over the last 12 months. We have made good use of our two storage facilities, provided free of charge by our good friends at Walkerpack in Northampton at DHL Supply Chain at Magna Park, Lutterworth that are frequently running at or near capacity. This has enabled us to stage three kit packing days in conjunction with volunteers from BT, who have generously given up their time to help us pack and despatch consignments of kit totalling some 9 tonnes to 12 emerging rugby nations in Europe and Africa.

Of course, we couldn't do this without the help of our donors who have provided us with a steady stream of both cricket and rugby kit throughout the year. We gratefully acknowledge recent donations from the Royal Grammar School Worcester, Worcester Warriors Rugby Club, King Edward Grammar School, Warwickshire County Cricket Club, Leamington Cricket Club, Dorridge Cricket Club, East Leake RFC and Potton RFC (who generously donated all their kit following the demise of their club).

Further contributions have come from kit suppliers Akuma Rugby and manufacturers Tejay Socks, while individual donations have been made by numerous people including a number of referees, John Wells, Graham Rowntree (Leicester and England rugby) and Neal Radford (former Worcestershire and England cricketer).

We thank you all for helping to make it possible for youngsters less fortunate than ourselves to play the sports we love. We were also pleased to receive the endorsement of David Duckham MBE, formerly of Coventry, England and the Lions who joins our other rugby legends as a supporter of the Kit Aid cause.

2013 is set to be another year of growth for LV= SOS Kit Aid in the Midlands. We have been joined by additional kit collectors - Richard Green, who is assisting Regional Director Ed Friend in the West Midlands and Catherine Priestley who is assisting Regional Director, John Marshall and Assistant Regional Director Gary Welsh in the East Midlands.

The Ullesthorpe Court Hotel and Golf Course, another of our generous supporters, has again been booked for what will be our third annual Golf Day on Thursday 23 May. Gary Welsh is currently working hard to make sure that this years event is even more successful than the previous two. We are confident that this will be the case as we are fortunate to be joined again for the day by an even bigger and more international group of rugby referees and celebrities than last year, all of which will ensure a superb day of golf, food, drink and evening entertainment.

Prices for the day are £75 per head or £299 for a team of four; we are confident that this is almost certainly the best value to be found anywhere in the Midlands for such an event. Gary can be contacted via email if you have any questions about the 2013 Golf Day.

We plan to update this page regularly throughout the year, so keep coming back to see our Midlands news.
