A New Partnership with Sri Lanka

SOS Kit Aid have been delighted to form a new partnership with an old friend, Sri Lankan born Nazoomi Azhar, to supply rugby kit to Sri Lanka where junior rugby is incredibly popular - it’s not just cricket over there ! Nazoomi is now SOS’ official ambassador for Sri Lankan rugby and has been able to find sponsors to pay for regular kit deliveries to the country in the coming years. Already we have been able to send four big rugby kit deliveries courtesy of Manoj Gunawardena of Sri Lankan Airlines and Suresh Sivagnanam of VDOC Ltd. Thanks to Nazoomi, SOS rugby kit will be distributed to less privileged rugby playing schools and children in rural areas. The Sri Lanka Rugby Federation has a very aggressive development programme to take rugby to all 25 districts before the end of 2018.

Priyantha Ekanayke - CEO of the Sri Lanka Rugby Federation said “ I would like to thank Nazoomi for initiating this programme and also like to express our gratitude to SOS Kit Aid, VDOC Ltd, Paradise Travels, and Mass Global Shipping. We also wish to thank the Sri Lankan Sports Minister and Sports Director General for their help and support. SOS Kit Aid are planning to send us rugby kit deliveries every quarter in 2018.The Sri Lankan Rugby Federation is now able to donate some of the kit to our national U-17 girls team and we have also donated some kit to our National U19 and U15 teams”

John Broadfoot CEO of SOS Kit Aid said “We are delighted to be helping our wonderful SOS Ambassador Nazoomi Azhar to help develop junior rugby in Sri Lanka ,where rugby is now the second most popular sport after cricket. Big thanks too to VDOC Ltd and Sri Lankan Airways for sponsoring our kit deliveries”

Thanks to our wonderful kit donors(schools, rugby clubs, kit manufacturers and the five nations) and sponsors,we have had another very successful year in 2017. We beat our target of 40 deliveries by 10% and 12,500 disadvantaged youngsters in 17 emerging rugby counties are enjoying playing rugby today thanks to SOS Kit Aid in 2017. We are very grateful to be supported too by World Rugby as part of their Rugby Development Programme called the Spirit of Rugby.

None of this would be possible without the kit supplied by all our long supporting kit donors over many years. The donated kit is as important now as it ever was - SO PLEASE KEEP IT COMING ! WE have just completed two big kit deliveries to Sri Lanka where over 20,000 youngsters play rugby(not just cricket!)and the picture below shows some new kit donated recently to young lady rugby players in Moldova. You will never know how much our kit means to all the 43 countries worldwide that we have supplied over the last 17 years. Thank you all again and we look forward to working with you again in 2018 !
