Many Thanks to Devonport Services

Many thanks to Mike Yeats (pictured), the Devonport Services Rugby Club, and the Devon RFU for their kind donation to SOS Kit Aid of a vast number of Rugby shirts and other kit. Devonport Services a strange name for a Rugby Club you might think but it is one of the oldest clubs in England and is the Rugby Club of the military service for members of the British armed forces. At one time it would include the Army and the Royal Air Force, but these days it is mainly the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines, with civilian players involved as well.

The youth have always been seen as a valuable asset to the club with players eventually coming through the system to play for the senior club. Indeed, over the years, quite a number have joined up as a result of playing for the club's youth and colts.

The club badge is made up of the Lion of the Army, a Naval crown and the RAF albatross with the clubs name on a ribbon underneath.

Devonport Services Rugby Club today runs youth age groups from under 7s to under 16s, girls’ teams at under 13 and under 15 level. And, of course, the famous senior teams, consisting of a 1st and 2nd team, a Ladies’ team, Colts and Girls under 18s. And also the occasional Veterans side.

A Generous Donation from Bristol Bears

“SOS volunteers Richard Westaway(left) and Paul Beet are pictured with Gabriella Derrick of Bristol Bears at a recent, very generous, kit donation to SOS Kit Aid. Bristol have just changed their kit sponsors and so wished to find a good home for some old stock and make some room before the new Umbro branded stock arrived. As SOS always send such branded kit abroad there is no clash between the old and new sponsors.

May we thank Gabi again for her very kind donation - rest assured we will put it to very good use!“

Phil Forgham, the SOS KIT AID collector in Devon, would like to give a big “thank you” to Exmouth Rugby Club, and especially to Jan McCarthy and Roger Holman (pictured), for their donation of eight very large kit-bags of Rugby shirts, shorts, socks and balls.

The home of Exmouth RFC, known as the ‘Cockles’, is to be found in a beautiful setting at the mouth of the River Exe on Devon’s south coast. Their 1st XV plays in the South West Premier Division, and the club boasts a thriving senior section, Ladies team, Colts XV, and a popular Junior section for boys and girls from Under 5s up to the Under 18s.
