Longlevens RFC put redundant kit to good use.
Following a change in sponsors at Longlevens RFC, it resulted in boxes of match day kit across all of the junior age groups and senior teams gathering dust in storage. However, a chance encounter at a charity golf day saw Longlevens RFC Chairman Richard Rudge introduced to Richard Westaway from SOS Kit Aid and the plan came together for the kit to be sent abroad to help those in need.
Chairman Richard Rudge said: "SOS Kit Aid values of impacting children's lives by giving them a chance to participate in sport are closely aligned to our own. We are blessed to have a thriving juniors rugby section at Longlevens RFC and the thought our old kit can help a child in need, even just a little, makes us very proud." Longlevens RFC are now waiting with excited interest on the next step of the journey.
Rudge continued: "With the collection today, we will remain in contact with SOS Kit Aid to see where our kit ends up. It would be magical for our young juniors to see the kit they played in now being enjoyed by juniors in countries as far away as Cambodia or Kazakhstan. They would certainly be different locations for rugby tour!"
