SOS Kit Aid

Many Thanks to Devonport Services

Many thanks to Mike Yeats (pictured), the Devonport Services Rugby Club, and the Devon RFU for their kind donation to SOS Kit Aid of a vast number of Rugby shirts and other kit. Devonport Services is a strange name for a Rugby Club you might think but it is one of the oldest clubs in England and is the Rugby Club of the military service for members of the British armed forces. At one time it would include the Army and the Royal Air Force, but these days it is mainly the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines, with civilian players involved as well.

The youth have always been seen as a valuable asset to the club with players eventually coming through the system to play for the senior club. Indeed, over the years, quite a number have joined up as a result of playing for the club's youth and colts.

The club badge is made up of the Lion of the Army, a Naval crown and the RAF albatross with the clubs name on a ribbon underneath.

Devonport Services Rugby Club today runs youth age groups from under 7s to under 16s, girls’ teams at under 13 and under 15 level. And, of course, the famous senior teams, consisting of a 1st and 2nd team, a Ladies’ team, Colts and Girls under 18s. And also the occasional Veterans side.
