East Midlands Update June 2011
The last 18 months have seen exciting things happen in the East Midlands Region. Firstly a new storage hub has been created at DHL Supply Chain at Magna Park near Lutterworth in Leicestershire. Thanks to Wayne Kinton the general manager at DHL, LV= SOS Kit Aid now has an easy access, ultra modern storage facility where we are also given resource to assist us with sorting and packing consignments for overseas deliveries. The East Midlands now has its own regular consignments departing every month to disadvantaged children.
The flow of kit into our storage hubs in Lutterworth and Northampton is ever increasing thanks to the generosity of schools and clubs in the Midlands and especially from rugby referees around the country. Gary Welsh who came on
board with LV= SOS KITAID in early 2010 has close connections with Elite, Panel and Society refs and subsequently the supply from these sources has been continual.
May 2011 saw the inaugural Midlands golf day held at Ullesthorpe Court Hotel and Golf Club in South Leicestershire. The event which attracted 20 teams as well as numerous spectators had a rugby referee theme which continued
late into the evening with World Cup refs Wayne Barnes, Dave Pearson and Chris White entertaining the attendees with hilarious anecdotal stories about their officiating exploits! Rugby legends Graham Price MBE, Tom Smith and John Taylor were also in attendance ensuring that the day was a massive success.
Huge thanks must go to Ullesthorpe Court Hotel and Golf Club for their support not only for the golf day but for all their assistance throughout the past 12 months.
Probably the one item of kit not in short supply in the Midlands is Rugby Socks! Thanks to Terry Smith the managing Director of Tejay Sportswear in Narborough Leicestershire LV= SOS Kit Aid has received literally thousands of pairs of brand new socks over the last 12 months many of which have now already been shipped overseas. Tejay is one of the UK's leading manufacturers of sports socks and we are extremely grateful for Terry's generosity.
We are always delighted to receive calls from anyone who has cricket or rugby kit to donate so don't hesitate to call John or Gary on the numbers shown.
Watch this space for more Midlands news!
LV= SOS Kit Aid activities in the East Midlands have moved on leaps and bounds both in terms of kit and sponsors. Many thanks to the clubs and groups of individuals who have contributed kit of all shapes and sizes: our garage is getting full!
It is timely to report that we now have a warehousing facility in Northampton, generously made available to us by Eurocontinental Logistics, part of the SMC / Mainland Group.
John Marshall, East Midlands Regional Director is pictured with Miri from Mainland's Northampton office making the first delivery of some of the kit donated by manufacturers Samurai and Gymphlex to the warehouse.
Kit from the Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire RFU Referees' Society was delivered at the same time, so a separate thank you to them.
We also wish to acknowledge the fantastic support and assistance provided to us by Frank Ring of Clipper Logistics, without whom this warehouse deal would not have been possible.
Thanks Frank, we look forward to future co-operation and success.
As the season draws to a close, please can we remind clubs, schools, referees and those who have 'hung up their boots' that there is a ready outlet for used or outgrown kit. Get in touch with us and we will make sure it gets to a good home where it will help others in emerging rugby nations to play and enjoy the game.
