Last Friday saw yet another superb SOS Kit Aid Golf Day at Kingsdown Golf Club, nr Corsham, Wilts. Despite the rather sombre background, a very successful and highly professional Golf Day was run by SOS Kit Aid’s Richard and Irene Westaway along with brilliant support by SOS staff – Andy Thompson (plus friend Paul Stadnik), Gary Welsh, Phil Forgham and Mike Thomas.

A minute’s silence was held in loving memory of our dearly beloved Queen Elizabeth II.

An amazing 35 enthusiastic teams took part and a great day was had by all. This year, ‘winning your height in cider’ was a brilliant new addition. Unfortunately Matt Banahan or Matt Garvey didn’t win it!!

We were delighted too. to host the new World Rugby Participation Manager, Greg Woods, who had a great day and was delighted to see SOS Kit Aid at work and raising much money for disadvantaged rugby players and countries around the world

The team winners were:-

  • JABBA THE PUTT – best team name and best golf, comprising Mark Lewis, Alan Tyler, Pete Woodward and Damien Henson with a 100+ points score.
  • Individual winner with 42 points playing off 18 was Joss Langley.
  • Ladies winner was Sue Watson
  • Matt Banahan did indeed carry off a prize – nearest the pin on the 16th.
  • Fergus Farrell from Halbro Sportswear was nearest the pin on the 3rd
  • The cider was won by Ed Cawes.

Big thanks to our wonderful rugby celebrities, Gareth Chilcott, Graham Price, David Trick, Simon Devereux, Andy Deacon , Matt Banahan , Matt Garvey , Martin Haag and to the wonderful members (Vice Captain Richard Talbot) and the Team at Kingsdown Golf Club, which was in great shape in some early Autumn sunshine.

Thanks also to our sponsors, John Moore MD of Halbro Sportswear, Paul Hughes of Inspiring Buildings , Richard Turvey , Simon Bryant Jefferies – Jem , Nick & Caroline Keen , Roy Marfleet, Andy Lane of Lane Pearson, Paul Beet MD of Astra Security Ltd , Redhead Transport Intl, Jim Gibson of the Big Yellow Company, W Rugby balls and DHL.

Everyone had a great time and we are already looking forward to next year’s event on Friday 18th August,  2023 (subject to confirmation).”
