From the British Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina:
Originating in England, rugby is becoming popular in Bosnia and Herzegovina too. Women’s University Rugby Club Swallowice, covers young athletes from six cities in BiH; Zenice, Mostara, Tuzla, East Sarajevo, Foča and Sarajevo. Teams will be formed in each of these six cities at a university level and the best of these girls will play together in a combined team.
The British Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina seeks to support the development of rugby in the whole country and are especially happy to see that interest in this sport is increasing among children and women. They were glad they were able to secure a large donation, from the British rugby charity SOS Kit Aid, in the form of kit and equipment, for the use of rugby players across Bosnia and Herzegovina, some of which will be used by the girls from Swallowice.
The Embassy hopes that this donation will contribute to the development of Women’s Rugby at universities in the six cities and that this wonderful story will spread to other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ed Miles, a representative of the British Embassy stated that, ‘sport is an activity that unites people and knows no discrimination and that it was very important that there were more of such inclusive initiatives across the country, that change the social perception of sport as a male-only activity’.
Thank you #RagbiSavezBiH for promoting this sport across the country, we wish these young athletes good luck and follow them in their matches to come.
